Services
- The Cross Cultures Learning Center does initial language assessments for newcomers to determine folx’ current level of ability. From there, the Cross Cultures Learning Center provides folx with information and referral services to English as a Second Language programs
How to Register
- To make an appointment to obtain a language assessment there is an online form on the Cross Cultures Learning Website for folx to fill out (folx can scroll down on the Cross Cultures Learning Website and see the required fill in template form)
- Folx are also able to call or email the Cross Cultures Learning Center with any questions, or concerns
Language Skills Program – YMCA

Services
- The Language Skills Program is an English as a second language program for adult newcomers who are permanent residents and convention refugees
- Assists with learning and teaching English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks
- If you are new to Canada, the YMCA offers programs to help an individual transition into an individual’s new community
- Services offer in-person and online – contact YMCA for more detailed
Requirements
- A language assessment is to be completed before being able to utilize services in the YMCA Education Center. This ensures that folx will be taking part in the English language class that best suits their needs.
- Contact the Cross Cultures Learning Center at 519-432-1133 to assist with obtaining a learning assessment.
- Requires a copy of an individual’s refugee status.

- Helps individuals learn how to read, write, and speak English from the comfort of an individual’s own home, or through in person classes through TVDSB

- Requires a language assessment so that the Thames Valley English as a Second Language program may assist folx with partaking in the language class that best suits an individual’s needs

- The Thames Valley English as a Second Language program may require a copy of an individual’s refugee status.
