Proceeds from the Margaret McCain Lecture Series go to the Upstream Endowment Campaign.

We are delighted that Margaret McCain agreed to lend her name to a lecture series here at the Centre for Children & Families in the Justice System. The lecture series is a tangible reflection of our respect and affection for Margaret. We greatly admire her dedication to children's interest, her energy and her compassion. Her generosity to us comes in the form of her time, her praise, her guidance, and her financial and moral support.
Each lecture will address a topic of interest shared by Margaret and our staff, such as the early years and the effects of violence on children. Proceeds go to the Centre's Upstream Endowment campaign, building a financial legacy for the next generation.
Inaugural Lecture by Dr. Bruce Perry
 |
In Septmeber of 2004, an audience of over 300 watched Dr. Bruce Perry's dynamic and stimulating lecture at the London Convention Centre entitled:
Maltreatment and the Developing Child: How Early Childhood Experience Shapes Child and Culture
His approach is in harmony with our own in many ways: begin early, apply a developmental framework, understand how children cope with adversities, support caregivers to support children, and help professionals understand how children think, feel and learn. For those not able to join us for the inaugural lecture, we provide a summary of Dr. Perry's talk, with directions to other sources of information for those interested in learning more about his work.

The 2007 Lecture
 |
We Must be the Change we Wish to See in the World
The second Margaret Norrie McCain Lecture was delivered by Mr. Arun Gandhi on May 10, 2007 at the London Convention Centre. Mr. Gandhi is the fifth grandson of India's legendary leader, Mohandas K. "Mahatma" Gandhi. With his wife Sunanda, he founded the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence in 1991. While non-violence is the absence of violence, the principles of nonviolence powerfully heal, transform, and empower our lives and communities by honouring the dignity and worth of every human being.
The lecture was part of the Third International Conference on Children Exposed to Domestic Violence.
