Helping Children Thrive: Information for Mothers who Have Left Abusive Relationships
by Linda Baker & Alison Cunningham (2004)

The material in this pamphlet is taken from Helping Children Thrive / Supporting Woman Abuse Survivors as Mothers: A Resource to Support Parenting. Ten parenting tips are presented along with a list of ways that an abusive man can affect a woman as a mother. Why are these 10 tips important for use with children who have lived with violence? We suggest reasons here. We also have a work sheet for women, to help them generate ideas -- perhaps in a support-group context -- to apply the concepts. Disponible aussi en français.

Information for Families: Youth Justice Court Assessments at the Centre

This concise pamphlet answers the questions of parents/caregivers whose son, daughter or other young person in the family has been referred by the Youth Justice Criminal Court for a psychological assessment. You will learn about the assessment process, the purpose of the report, and examples of sentences available. While this material is designed specifically for families referred to the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System, much of the information would apply to any place in Canada where reports are compiled under s. 34(1) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
