May 9 to 11, 2007 * London, Ontario, Canada

The conference was co-hosted by three partner agencies.

Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System

The Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System (formerly the London Family Court Clinic) is a non-profit social service agency helping children, teens and families involved with the criminal or civil legal systems as victims of crime, the parties in custody disputes, the subjects of child welfare proceedings, young offenders, parties in civil litigation, or as the residents of treatment or custody facilities. In addition to these direct services, staff conduct applied research, perform on-site training of professional groups, and develop training and educational resources, most notably on the topic of children exposed to domestic violence. Other components of the Centre's work are public education, community collaboration, and mentoring students in internship and other placements.

Dr. Linda Baker, Executive Director, was the Conference Director representing the Centre for Children & Families in the Justice System.

Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children

The Centre promotes the development of community-centred, action research on violence against women and children. The Centre's role is to facilitate the cooperation of individuals, groups and institutions representing the diversity of the community to pursue research questions and training opportunities to understand and prevent abuse. It serves local, national and international communities by producing useful information and tools to assist in the daily work against violence toward women and children.

Dr. Peter Jaffe, Academic Director, was the Conference Director representing the Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children.

The CAMH Centre for Prevention Science

The CAMH Centre for Prevention Science is part of the Child, Youth and Family Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the University of Toronto. The Centre's research will address issues in prevention of health-related problems among children and youth. The Centre houses the "Fourth R" project, a comprehensive violence prevention and healthy relationship program now being piloted and evaluated in schools throughout the Thames Valley District School Board. The "Fourth R" was developed to help adolescents form healthy relationships and make better choices while they navigate critical developmental minefields such as substance use, sexual relationships, bullying and violence. The Centre works closely with academic researchers and community partners to implement effective, long-lasting prevention initiatives for children and youth. The Centre For Prevention Science plans to elevate the study of prevention to that of a science.

Dr. David Wolfe, RBC Chair in Children's Mental Health, was the Conference Director representing the CAMH Centre for Prevention Science.
